The Route

Enjoy a cool morning bike ride through scenic canyons, vineyards, and rangelands that have moderately challenging hills. You can choose between the 100-mille ride, the 62-mile ride, or the 40-mile ride. The Windmill rides all start and finish at Los Alamos County Park.

The century ride and the metric ride traverse Alisos Canyon and go past the famous twin windmills, to the Santa Maria Valley with a stop for lunch at Pioneer Park. The metric route then follows Hwy 135 on its return to Los Alamos. The century route leaves Pioneer Park, tours West Santa Maria Valley, and heads for the Casmalia hills for a 1-mile 6% climb and a 3-mile descent, followed by a refreshing rest stop. On returning to the Santa Maria Valley, the century ride rejoins the metric route. Usually both rides head back to Los Alamos County Park with a moderate tailwind.
